How do i change the type of a video?? Probably a stupid question??

well i want to make a big video from my videos on the computer using Windows Movie Maker. But my videos are the wrong type. I know how to change photos but how do i make my videos the right type to work on Movie maker?? Probably a pretty stupid question but i dont know!! Thanks

1. go to http://www.downloads.com and search for a prgram called AudioVideo_To_Exe.exe its a free prgram that will convert pretty much any video or audio format to another.
2. just change the extension of it by renaming it.
3. You create a movie in WMV format which movie maker works on by default and then search for "video conversion" software either buy one or find a free one If possible.
